Shukr Clothing UK: I am seriously dissapointed

Towards the end of Ramadhan I ordered an abaya from Shukr UK which was meant to arrive before Eid, and was obviously meant to be a certain colour. It didn't arrive before Eid, I contacted them several times via email and phone but they didn't get back to me before Eid. The abaya was the wrong colour (i.e they showed the colour very differently on the site) and I sent it back and received the credit on my account. They then changed the abaya picture on the site after my complaint. Anyhow last week I saw this coloured abaya and liked it, and though I had promised myself that I wouldn't buy from Shukr again, I thought as a Muslim I should give them a second chance. So I placed an order for the following abaya and guess what I received?

Here is the abaya received:

Is it just me or does it really look quite different? I don't like the colour of the one I've been sent. Or am I just being too fussy and expecting too much?

And is it really OK to place pictures of products that don't match what you are selling? From an ethical point of view I think that is wrong, but even from a theological point, is it valid?

Well the colour is different and It certainly does not seem to have nice cowl neckline as on photo .

Every time I go on their website when I look for my account I cannot find my credit note. Not even a telephone number to contact . I ordered from them and they were short of an item .

Those are two very different colors! And it's unfair to deliver one thing when the client is paying for another.

I thought it was only me having problems with Shukr. They portray themselves as a reputable brand, they should live up to that.

The credit note automatically comes up when you place an order from the account that has the credit. The bill will go to 0.00.

nadia:

Its not only me that thinks the colours are very different. Thanks for the support :)

Also the material portrayed in the pic seems very different, hence the neckline not looking the same.

Y'know what, Shukr do have consistency and a strong ethical background; perhaps their weaknesses in marketing and communication lead to this "anomaly". I too ordered at least 4-5 times within a 1mnth timeframe and every product was c*cked up or returned, out of stock - leading to photo changes and different to what was shown.

Maybe if we collectively and kindly put our suggestions forward to'em, they might direct towards better management inshaallah. =)

Gosh, that looks like two different abaya's. That's just not right. Really puts you off.
Have you contacted them about it?

Zaufishan: Yes, you are right. They've obviously got some serious problems to sort out.

Smiley: I contacted them last time and I almost feel embarassed to contact them again with the same problem. But I think I will end up getting in touch with them.

Don't be embarrassed! You paid them money and its their job to give you what you paid for. I've read about this happening on a Swedish muslimah's blog - she didn't get what she ordered for a long time and they wouldn't reply to her.

Dear Cosmic Cook,

I happened to come across your blog and I am very sorry to hear about your upsetting experiences with SHUKR Islamic Clothing (www.shukr.co.uk). I hope you don’t mind me using this space to apologise and to give a brief explanation of what went wrong and how we intend to fix things.

I would like to first explain that SHUKR was established with the intention of serving the Muslim community by providing them with contemporary, culturally relevant clothing. We also try our utmost to follow the Sacred Law in all of our dealings, which includes presenting the clothing in an accurate light and providing quality customer service. We are grateful to be notified about any mistakes we make so that we can make amends and improve our services.

We have had a few issues with our order fulfilment and customer service in the UK, partly because we recently moved distribution centres in late July 2009. This explains the delay in sending out your order prior to Eid in September. We are working to resolve these problems and, alhamdulillah, we have made some significant progress and we will shortly complete our reorganisation.

Regarding the discrepancies that you noted between the website picture and the actual garment, please note that the photographs taken at our photo shoots, which are subsequently uploaded onto the website, are of the same garments that are given to our customers when they make a purchase. In fact, before we send off all of the finished items from our production unit in Syria to our distribution centres around the world, we select a garment from each colour and style from the shipment to photograph. So the material is exactly the same, as well as the colour. However, photographing colours is notoriously difficult and depends heavily upon the location and lighting available. The outdoor SHUKR photo, taken in natural light, is inevitably going to be different from an indoor photo taken in artificial light. Differences in computer monitor settings also affect the way pictures appear on the screen. Nevertheless, we do our utmost to present the colours as accurately as possible, and most customers do not find any noticeable differences. Unfortunately, there does seem to be a major difference in the abaya that you ordered and we will look into this matter with urgency. We will gladly exchange this for you or other a full refund, according to your preference.

Also, in regard to the comments of Zaufishan and Melissa, we would also encourage them to contact us so that we can rectify any problems they have found with their orders.
Our goal is not just to make a sale of a clothing item, but to have happy customers who proudly dress in modest Islamic clothing.

Please feel free to contact me personally if you have further concerns at shukr@scs-net.org

I have ordered from them a lot and had some great things I loved and somethings that I also did not feel was what it showed on the site. I never thought about it until I read this though. I ordered 2 shirts and their huge I wore them when I was 9 months pregnant and they were even huge then and they are a size Med. Also one was so low cut what Muslimah could wear that I sent it back..
